HERKIMER – Charlotte Chase
Nicolette age 80 of Willis
Avenue
passed away on Friday afternoon, March 28, 2008 in the arms of loving family in Tennessee.
She
was born on March 8,
1928
in Ogdensburg, NY, daughter of the late Clarence Sr. and
Jennie Daniels Chase. During her many happy years with family in
Ogdensburg, she was known for her many Speed Skating accomplishments and
noted as a National Speed skating competitor in the mid 40’s – early
50’s. Charlotte was raised in Ogdensburg and was a graduate of Ogdensburg Free Academy
class of “1946”. After graduation she attended Watertown School of
Commerce with her best friend to this day, Pat Worden (Adams Center),
where she graduated with valuable secretarial skills which served her
well as she went to work for Vermont Evaporator Company, then to work as
the secretary to the lead doctor at St. Lawrence Psychiatric Hospital.
During this time she was married to Lawrence Spriggs, a marriage of 21
years.
After moving to
Herkimer, NY
she subsequently worked for the Herkimer County District Attorney, Mr.
Snyder, then, County Attorney, Charles Crandall Jr. and as an
under-sheriff to Sheriffs, Richard Folts, Edward Casler and Daniel
Reardon.
On November 23, 1973 she was
united in marriage with Joseph M. Nicolette in the Methodist Church
in Herkimer. Mr. Nicolette preceded her in death on July 13, 2006.
Charlotte
was a member of the First
United
Methodist
Church where she sang in
the Church Choir and was an active member in the United Methodist Women.
She was also an active member of the Evening Star Valley Chapter #82
Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Nicolette will always
be remembered for her warm smile and her hopeful, caring manner and down
to earth common sense approach to life. She enjoyed reading and
playing cards with family and friends.
Surviving her are a
daughter, Melody DePew and her husband Michael of Celina, TN, three
step-daughters and their husbands, Joann and Stan Dickson of Little
Falls, Linda and Howard Paul, Cathy and John Ainsworth all of Herkimer,
one grandchild, eight step grandchildren, three great grandchildren,
several nieces, nephews, cousins. She also shared many, many happy day’s
playing cards and enjoying the beauty of the Mohawk valley with a
multitude of brothers and sisters in-laws. Besides her parents and
husband Joe she was pre-deceased by two brothers,
Alton
and Clarence Chase Jr.
The family will be present
in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer to receive
relatives and friends on Monday May 19, 2008 from 4:00 until 7:00 pm.
Funeral service will be on Tuesday May 20, 2008 at 11:00 am in the First
United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls, 127 Prospect Street, Herkimer with the
Reverend Wrightson Tongue, Pastor officiating. The burial service,
commemorating her life, will be Wednesday, May 21st at 1:00
pm in the family burial grounds at
Ogdensburg
Cemetery.
