Achille Madia, age 90, of Ilion, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2026 at The Grand in Ilion, surrounded by his loving wife, Linda.

Born on January 12, 1936, in Pianopoli, Italy, Achille was the son of the late Frank and Congetta (Pugliese) Madia. After receiving his education in Italy, he immigrated to the United States and began his career working for Gold Medal and Chirico’s in Herkimer. He later discovered his true passion at Hapanowicz Markets in New York Mills, where he worked as a skilled meat cutter and sausage maker for 50 years. Achille was known for his dedication and loyalty to the Hapanowicz brothers and their family business.

In 1978, he married Linda Godlewski, and together they shared a loving union of 48 years. The couple enjoyed spending time together tending to Achille’s beloved gardens and caring for his fig trees.

Achille is survived by his devoted wife, Linda; his son, Achille; his daughter, Dina Sussilleaux, and her husband, Michael, of Brooklyn, NY; his sister, Josephine McQueen, and her husband, Bruce, of Schenectady, NY; his grand doggie Grizzly and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Congetta Madia; his brothers, Ralph, Tommy, and Angelo; and his sisters, Isabella and Ida.

In accordance with Achille’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery on German Street in Herkimer at the convenience of the immediate family.
