MURRELLS INLET, SC Agnes Thomes, age 89, formerly of West Center Street, Mohawk, passed away peacefully on Monday November 26, 2012 in Waccamaw Community Hospital, Murrells Inlet, SC.
She was born on July 18, 1923 in Mohawk daughter of the late Harold and Mary Mansfield Myers, Agnes was raised in Mohawk and was a graduate of Mohawk High School. On March 2, 1946 she was united in marriage to Henry J. Thomes in Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk, a loving union of 52 years until his passing on March 28, 1998.
For 35 years, Mrs. Thomes was a telephone operator and later a supervisor for New York Telephone in Herkimer and Ilion. She retired in 1975. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, the Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters of America, Telephone Pioneers of America, Crowley Barnum Post No. 25 American Legion Auxiliary and to various bowling leagues in Ilion and Herkimer as well as an avid bridge players with many friends made in both New York and South Carolina.
She was happiest when she was with her family especially her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving her are a daughter Kathleen Shaffer and her husband Mark of Murrells Inlet, SC, two granddaughters Jennifer Shaffer of Myrtle Beach, SC, Erin Beadle and her husband Jason of Murrells Inlet, SC three great granddaughters Olivia Rose, Sydney Melissa and Emily Kathleen Beadle all of Murrells Inlet, SC, a sister Anne Myers-Smith of Chesterfield, VA, a sister-in-law Barbara Myers of San Diego, CA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents and husband Henry, she was preceded in death by three brothers Robert Myers, Harold Myers, and John Myers, a sister Maryrose Myers-Cole.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday May 28th at 11:00 am in Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk, with the Very Reverend Mark Cunningham, Sacramental Minister, assisted by Sister Mary Jo Tallman, Parish Life Director. ill be celebrated by the Rev.
