Obituary

JORDANVILLE - Alan J. Hoke, age 78, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, December 2, 2008 in MaryImogene BassettHospital, Cooperstown. He was born on November 3, 1930 in Herkimer, a son of the late Glenn E. and Anna Jordan Hoke.A lifelong area resident he graduated from Van Hornesville Central School and continued his education graduating from Alfred Tech.An honorable discharged U.S. Army veteran he served from 1956 until 1958. After the service he returned to Jordanville where he assisted in the family store. He had also worked for thetown of Warren HighwayDepartment and for Hoke Construction and Supply.He enjoyed woodworking and took on any challenging construction situation, thus becoming a self employed repair man about town.For many years Alan had served on the Jordanville Library Board.In his leisure time he enjoyed reading and studying local history. He is survived by a sister Martha Bronner and her husband Darwin of Van Hornesville, a brother Gordon E. Hoke and his wife Catherine of the town of Warren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home to receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 1:30 until 3:30 p.m. Funeral service and interment will take place in Highland Rural Cemeterynext spring. Expression of sympathy may be made with donations to the Jordanville Library, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
