Obituary

RICHFIELDSPRINGS - Albert Everett Ames, age 85, of US Highway # 20, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Thursday morning, March 5, 2009, in Mary ImogeneBassett Hospital,Cooperstown. He was born on July 23, 1923, in Richfield Springs, son of the late Otis and Laura Brown Ames. A lifelong Richfield Springs resident he was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School. On October 19, 1946, he was united in marriage with the former Dorothy M. Wing in the Universalist Church in Schuyler Lake. A familiar face around Richfield Springs, Mr. Ames had owned and operated the Ames Dairy Farm on US Highway #20 all of his working life. He retired from dairy farming in 2000. Albert had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Church of Christ Unitingin Richfield Springs. As an active dairy farmer he held memberships in the Otsego Dairy League, Otsego Farm Bureau and the Richfield Grange where he was a fifty year member. To all who knew him they will always remember a quiet, down to earth gentleman. Any conversation with him was direct and to the point but you felt his warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be greatly missed. Surviving him are his beloved wife if sixty-two years Dorothy, one son, Charles Ames and his wife Mary of Richfield Springs, two daughters and their husbands, Susan and John Compton of Oneonta, Carolyn and Ralph Wilston of Mainesburg, PA, a brother, Robert Ames of Sidney Center, one sister, Barbara Roth and her husband John of Satille, MS, eight grandchildren, Marissa, Erika and Bethany Ames, Bryan and Jennifer Compton, Randon, Ethan and Nathaniel Wilston along with two nieces and a nephew. Funeral service will be on Sunday at 2:00 pm in the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs. The Reverend Arthur Miner, Pastor will officiate. Interment will be later this spring in Lakeview Cemetery. The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs to receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
