RICHFIELD SPRINGS-Albert John Dorn Jr. age 66 of Church Street passed away on Friday night February 17, 2012 in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side. He was born on December 15, 1945 in Utica, son of the late Albert J. Sr. and Lois Brown Dorn. A lifelong resident of Richfield Springs he was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School. Al was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1964 and served proudly in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on July 22, 1970 attaining the rank of Sergeant. For many years Mr. Dorn has worked as an electrician for the Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown. Al had a strong faith in God and was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Richfield Springs. In his leisure time he was an avid reader which kept him politically well informed. He followed the National Football League and his beloved World Champion New York Football Giants. He was also a knowledgeable antique collector. But most of all he enjoyed working around his home, taking care of the lawn as well taking care of all the needed repairs that a home owner is faced with. To all who knew him, he was a caring, good natured man who would stop at a moments notice to help out a friend and look for nothing in return. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by the love of his life, Larraine DeAngelis, and her children, Joshua and his wife Tracey Grippe of Unadilla, Courtney Titus and her children Joseph and Caitlyn Titus all of Amsterdam, four brothers, Conrad Dorn of Syracuse, Dennis Dorn and his wife Jeanette of East Springfield, Christopher Dorn and his wife Margie of New Berlin, Matthew Dorn and his wife Kathy of Fort Plain, one sister, Susanne Burkhart of Tavares, FL, several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs on Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 1:00 pm in the funeral home with the Reverend Terence Healy, pastor of Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps will be Saint Josephs Cemetery, Richfield Springs, later this spring. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Utica Rescue Mission or the Bassett Medical Center Cancer Treatment Center. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
