RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Albert Edwin Eldred Sonny age 70 of McKoons Road passed away on Friday afternoon April 12, 2013 in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown.He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born on June 11, 1942 in Ilion, son of the late Albert H. and Norma Hyney Eldred. A lifelong area resident he was raised and educated in Ilion and West Winfield Schools. An honorably discharged US Army veteran he served from 1964 to 1966, attaining the rank of Private First Class.
On October 11, 1969 he was united in marriage with the former Mary Anne Dowd in the United Methodist Church, Richfield Springs.
Mr. Eldred was employed as an assembler for the Remington Arms Company in Ilion. A dedicated worker for thirty-five years, he retired in 2001.
In his leisure time Sonny found much pleasure in fishing.To all who knew him, he was a devoted family man who was happiest when he was with his many friends and family especially his cherished grandchildren. He will be sorely missed.
Surviving are his beloved wife of forty-three years Mary, a daughter Trudi Young and her companion Caffrey Snyder both of Richfield Springs, one son Jeff Eldred and his companion Lynette Oare and her daughter Makalya all of Saint Johnsville, a brother, George Eldred and his companion Tina of Mohawk, one sister, Norma Smith and Merrick of Ilion, four grandchildren, Christopher Young, Joshua Young, Caleb Eldred and Brienne Eldred, several nieces, nephews and cousins including a special niece, Tara Eldred Marsh and her husband Kevin.Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Charles Eldred.
Calling hours for Mr. Eldred will be on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath FuneralHome, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs. Funeral service will be on Thursday at 2:00 pm in the funeral home with the Reverend David Tosi officiating.Interment with military honors accorded by the US Army will follow in Millers Mills Cemetery, Millers Mills.
