EAST HERKIMER-Albert Earl Richard, age 83, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, August 27, 2018, in Valley Health Services, Inc., Herkimer.
He was born on July 9, 1935 in Herkimer, son of the late Walter R. and Margaret Chrisman Richard. A lifelong Herkimerresident he was a graduate of Herkimer High School. He went on to Syracuse University where he graduated from the College of Forestry in 1958.
On September 10, 1958 he was inducted into the US Army and had served in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1960 having attained the rank of Sargent. Mr. Richard returned to Herkimer where he worked as a Forrester for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. He retired in 1990.
Albert had a strong belief in God and was at one time a member of the Herkimer Reformed Church. He also was Past President of the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4915, Herkimer and The Society of American Foresters since 1958. In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting , fishing and spending time at his camp in the town of Wilmart. To all who knew him they will always remember a hardworking and honest man with an unforgettable smile. He will be sorely missed by his friends and family.
Surviving him are a sister, Mary Ervin, one brother Walter Richard both of East Herkimer, five nieces, Dawn Tarbox of Gaithersburg, MD, Cathy Bush of Ilion, Deb Keyser of Herkimer, Sandra Lindig of Ilion and Coleen Ervin of Herkimer, two nephews, Alan Richard and Dan Ervin both of Herkimer and a special friend, Patricia Seymour. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother John Richard in 1997.
Calling hours for Mr. Richard will be on Thursday from 4:00 until 6:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. A funeral service will follow immediately after at 6:00 pm with the Reverend Kyle Nesbett, pastor of the Herkimer Reformed Church officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery on Friday at 11:00 am.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Valley Health Services, Inc. for the care and compassion shown to Albert during his stay at the nursing home.
