Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Alberta S. Gardner, age 76, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, July 20, 2015, in Folts Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. She was born on April 21, 1939, in German Flats, a daughter of the late William H. and Ruth C. Rockwell Martin. A lifelong area resident, she was raised and educated in Richfield Springs Central School. On September 28, 1957, she was united in marriage to Charles Allen Gardner in the Richfield Springs United Methodist Church. For fifteen years she had worked in Newberry's / The General Store in Cooperstown. She retired in 2010. For many years she was a dedicated blood donor for the American Red Cross. In her leisure time she enjoyed gardening and canning. To all who knew her they would say her family always came first. She was happiest when surrounding by her children, grand and great-grandchildren. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed. Surviving are her husband of fifty-eight years, Charles, three sons, Alvin Gardner and his wife Merrie Sue of Columbia Center, Joseph Gardner and his wife Cora, Kenneth Gardner and Kim all of Warren. One daughter, Marcia Bennett and her husband Derek of Warren, five brothers, William Martin of CA, Jim and his wife Betsy from West Winfield, Robert Martin and his wife Marion of Dolgeville, her twin brother, Albert Martin and his wife Sue of NC, Richard Martin and his wife Marichu of Ft. Plain, two sisters, Mary Hall of Ilion, and Lillian Murphy and her husband Jim of Richfield Springs, grandchildren, Samuel, Jeanette, Rebecca and fianc Omar, Crystal, Melissa, Jason, Jered, Joeal, Jerald, Lacey and boyfriend Cody, Keira, and Calahan, great-grandchildren, Joshua, Owen, Amyah, Emeli, Taylor, and Carter, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four siblings, Francis, Ida Robinson, Maude Reed and Louise. Calling hours for Mrs. Gardner will be on Sunday, August 2nd from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs, A Graveside funeral service will follow at 3:30 p.m. in Springfield Center Cemetery. Memorial donation in her memorial may be made to the Richfield Springs Vets Club or the local American Red Cross. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Calling Hours J.
