Obituary

MOHAWK Alden S. Gallogly Al, age 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, March 14, 2012 in Little Falls Hospital. He was born on August 23, 1930 in Cowan, West Virginia, son of the late Elza and Florence Moffatt Gallogly. Al was raised and educated in West Virginia Public Schools. After completing his education he moved to the Mohawk Valley where he went to work for the Standard Furniture Company in Herkimer. When the Korean War broke he left the Standard and joined the US Army. He served proudly and was honorably discharged on February 17, 1953, attaining the rank of Corporal. Upon returning home from the war he went to work as a tool cutter, wood stock finisher and a cutter grind for the Remington Arms Company in Ilion. He retired in 1990. On May 26, 1951 he was united in marriage with the former Edith Thompson in the Herkimer United Methodist Church. The Reverend Fred Cotnam officiated. Being married for nearly sixty-two years, Al and Edith first made their home in Fort Herkimer until 1999 when they moved to the village of Mohawk and have remained there since. Mr. Gallogly had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Dolgeville Christian Fellowship Church. He enjoyed music and loved to sing his favorite hymns and country songs, especially around the campfire at Eighth Lake. To all who knew him they will never forget a warm, caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who was always there for them and cherished the time he spent with them. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his loving wife of nearly sixty-two years, Edith, four daughters, Brenda and her husband J.P. Waldron of Victorville, CA, Gail and her husband Paul Whittaker of Mohawk, Diane and her husband Roger Dygert of Durhamville, Mary Beth Gallogly of Herkimer, three sons and their wives, Alden S. Chip and Shelia Gallogly of Oneida, Robert and Robin Gallogly of Poland, Douglas and Jackie Gallogly of Fort Myers, FL, three brothers, Howard, Everett and John Gallogly, three sisters, Opal Brado, Laura Horton, and Patricia Ellis, nineteen beloved grandchildren, Melissa, Jeremiah, Bucky, Bethany, Emily, Gabriel, Sarah, Timothy, Joshua, Katie, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Nyoemi, Briana, Jordan, Patrick, Allison and Ian, eight cherished great grandchildren, Audrey, Christy, Una, Casey, Benjamin, Arthur, Alec and Aurora, his favorite mother-in-law, Jean Thompson, four sister-in-laws, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Susie Begley. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in the Dolgeville Christian Fellowship Church, 3 Elm Street, Dolgeville, on Sunday from 3:00 until 4:00 pm with a Celebration of Als Life to follow at 4:00 pm. Pastor Marvin Isum will officiate. Interment with military honors will take place in the new Mohawk Cemetery (Vickerman Hill) later this spring at a time to be announced. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Dolgeville Christian Fellowship Church or MOVAC. Envelopes will be available at the church. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home Inc., Herkimer.
