RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Alferd G. Llewellyn, age 79, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 1, 2012, in St. Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica. He was born March 23, 1933, in Richfield Springs, son of the late Harry and Katherine Brown Llewellyn. He was educated in Waterville and graduated from Waterville High School.
On August 1, 1953, he married Julia Pett in South Columbia Church by her grandfather. They shared a union of 56 years until her passing on August 14, 2009. They had first resided in Waterville then Brookfield before settling in Richfield Springs in 1959.
Al has been employed with the Waterville Knitting Mill and then went to work for Duofold in the early 1960s retiring as supervisor in the 1980s.
He proudly held life membership with the Flagon and Trencher. This is a group of direct descendants that were owners of a Tap or Tavern established on or before 1776.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Llewellyn Zuis, of Little Falls and four sons, Alferd Llewellyn Jr, of Amarillo, TX, Kendall Llewellyn, of Latham, David Llewellyn, of Richfield Springs and Robert Llewellyn, of Millers Mills. He leaves 16 grandchildren. Audrey, Andrea and Alexander Zuis, John Jr, Jessica, Jeffrey, Jacob, Jaclyn, Sarah, Gregory, Marissa, Eric, Aaron, Courtney, Derek, and Kyle Llewellyn and 8 great-grandchildren. He also leaves his friend Helen Bluett. Besides his parents and wife Julia Pett Llewellyn, he was preceded in death by his son John Llewellyn in 1991 and a sister Bertha Rogers.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects at J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs, on Sunday afternoon, from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Funeral services in the funeral home will be on Monday at 1:00pm. Reverend Mark Ioset, Interim Pastor of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs, will officiate. Interment will follow in Lakeview cemetery.
Memorial donation may be made to the Richfield Springs Vol. Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
