Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS Alfred J. Miller, Sr., age 88 of US Highway 20, passed away on Tuesday Morning January 29, 2019, with his family by his side, in Alpine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Little Falls. Alfred was born on September 17, 1930 in East Rutherford, New Jersey a son to the late Jacob and Margaret Vander Ploeg Miller. He was raised and educated in Haledon, New Jersey graduating from Eastern Christian High School. In 1951 he joined the Army, serving in Germany until 1953. On April 15, 1952 he married the former Joye Pontier in Clifton, New Jersey a blessed union sixty one years until her passing in 2013. In 1969 he and Joye moved from Haledon, New Jersey to Richfield Springs. From 1969 until 1986 Al worked for Remington Arms in Ilion, later in 1986 he became a sales representative for the Bruce Hall Corporation in Cooperstown retiring in 2012. He was a fan of baseball especially his beloved New York Mets. Having a strong belief in God he was one of the Founding Fathers of the Richfield Springs Bible Church. Surviving him are three sons; Alfred J. Miller, Jr. and his wife Marianne of Jordanville, Paul R. Miller and his wife Betty Lou of Jacksonville, Florida, James S. Miller of Richfield Springs, two daughters Karen R. Watson and her husband Bruce of Richfield Springs and Lois Miller of Mohawk, six grandchildren Brian Watson, Mark Watson, Michael Miller, Stephen Miller, Neil Miller, and Richard Miller, six great-grandchildren and niece Nancy Jonker and nephews Robert Woudenberg and Ronald Woudenberg. In addition he leaves behind brother-in-law and lifelong friend John "Woody" Woudenberg. Beside his parents and beloved wife he was preceded in death by a sister Evelyn Jonker. The funeral service for Mr. Miller will take place on Saturday, February 2nd at 4:00 pm at Richfield Springs Bible Church, Church Street, Richfield Springs with the Pastor David Tosi officiating. The family will be present in the church to receive relatives and friends before the service from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory with donations to the youth and missions funds at Richfield Springs Bible Church. Envelopes will be available at the church. The family wishes to thank the staff at Alpine Nursing and Rehab. Center in Little Falls for enhancing his quality of life with the compassionate care he received. Funeral arrangements are with J.
