Obituary

HERKIMER-Alfred J. Tarnawa 62 of Harter Road died on Sundaynight September 24, 2000 in Saint Lukes Memorial Hospital Center, NewHartford. Born on January 23, 1938 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, he was a son ofMartin and the late Frances Sobeaj Tarnawa. Alfred was raised in Pittsfield until 1948 when he and hisfamily then moved to Herkimer. He was a graduate of Herkimer High School. Mr.Tarnawa was first employed by UNIVAC, before starting his own contractingbusiness and, then for ten years worked for the UnionFork & Hoe Company, Frankfort, before retiring in 1994. He had been a member of SaintJoseph's Church, Herkimer. At one time he was active with the General HerkimerCouncil, Boy scouts of America. Surviving him besides his father Martin are two sons; JamesTarnawa of Herkimer, David and his wife Barbara Tarnawa of Schuyler, twodaughters Denise and her husband Patrick Chrisman of Herkimer, Jody Tarnawa ofEads, CO, one sister; Irene Sedgekowski of Frankfort, six grandchildren,several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special friend Jessie Doxtater. Besides his mother he was preceded in death by abrother Martin Tarnawa, Jr. in 1954. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 10:00am in FennerFuneral Home, Inc. with the Rev. Mark Cunningham pastor of St. Francis deSalesChurch, Herkimer, officiating. Interment will follow in Sts. Stanislaus andCasimer's Cemetery, Whitesboro. The family will be present to recievefriends and relatives on Wednesday evening from 5 - 8pm. The family wishes tothank the dialysis unit of St. Luke's Hospital for their care and compassionduring Alfred's illness.
