Obituary

HERKIMER-Alice I. Wellington age 71 passed away on Tuesday morning July 22, 2014 in Little Falls Hospital. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on March 15, 1943 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Joseph and Olive Rathbun Herringshaw. A lifelong Herkimer resident she was a graduate of Herkimer High School. On September 2, 1961 she was united in marriage with Ronald Wellington in the First United Methodist Church. The Reverend Fred Cotnam officiated. They shared a loving and devoted union of 49 years until his passing in 2011. For many years Alice worked as a Certified Nurse's Aide at the Folts Home in Herkimer. She had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Morning Star United Methodist Church of Ilion/Frankfort. To all who knew Alice, they will never forget a warm, caring and helpful woman who found much pleasure in doing for others while looking for nothing in return. To her family she was the strength that held them together in good times or bad. She will be truly missed. Surviving her are two sons, Daniel James Wellington and his wife Sherry of East Herkimer, Scott Thomas Wellington of Herkimer, two daughters, Ronda Jane Wellington of Herkimer, Jenny Lynn Tripple and her husband Steven of Schuyler, four brothers, Albert Herringshaw and his wife Betty of Columbia, Thomas Herringshaw and his wife Linda of Richfield Springs, Ralph Herringshaw and his wife Virginia and Donald Herringshaw and his wife Josephine all of Herkimer, five sisters, Iva Kast of Herkimer, Louise Kretchmer of Florence, MA, Sandra Buck of FL, Judith Eckler and her husband Robert of Herkimer and Kay Balch of Ilion, eight grandchildren, Brett, Shawn and Joseph Wellington, Josh and Jessica Swieton Amanda, Leea and Shannon Tipple, three sister-in-laws, Greta Herringshaw Of East Herkimer, Geraldine Herringshaw of Kennebunkport, ME, Cornelius Herringshaw of Sauquoit, one brother-in-law, Robert Fogerty of Ilion, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Ronald, she was preceded in death by a grandson, John Joseph Wellington, five brothers, Vernon "Ike" Herringshaw, Joseph Evelith Herringshaw, Elwin Perry Herringshaw, Robert Charles Herringshaw, and Charles William Herringshaw, one sister, Doris Fogerty. Calling hours for Mrs. Wellington will be on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. Funeral service will take place on Saturday at 10:00 am in the funeral home. The Reverend Robert Wollaber, pastor of Morning Star United Methodist Church of Ilion/Frankfort will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
