ILION/Richfield Springs Allen Bloomfield, age 70, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, January 5, 2012 at Mt. Carmel-St. Anns Hospital, Westerville, Ohio.
He was born on April 11, 1941, in Richfield Springs, a son of the late Charles and Opal (Ackler) Bloomfield.A lifelong area resident he attended school in Richfield Springs.In 1962 he enlisted in the US Marine Corp, serving until 1966 when he was honorably discharged.On November 22, 1974 he was united in marriage to the former Barbara Anderson in Richfield Springs.They moved to Ilion, where they resided until this past September when they moved to Westerville, OH.For many years he was employed with Six Nations, in Utica.He retired in 1990 due to declining health. In 1993 he was a recipient of a heart transplant.Allen enjoyed the outdoors and lived life to the fullest.Attending motocross races, camping and showing his prized German Shepherds were among his interest and hobbies.He will always be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather.He will be missed by his friends and especially his family.Surviving are his wife Barbara of 37 years, his children, Russell Allen Bloomfield of Lake Ariel, PA, Matthew Bloomfield of Rome, Kelley Bloomfield Barnes and her husband Brian of Wake Forest, NC Kimberly Bloomfield Hostutler and her husband Roger of Lewis Center, OH, five grandchildren, Megan Elizabeth Bloomfield, Abigail Elizabeth Barnes and Shawn Douglas Barnes, Isabella Noel Hostutler and Zachary Christian Hostutler, one brother and his wife Tom and Pat Bloomfield of Ilion, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Ken Bloomfield.The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs, on Thursday January 12th from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon and from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m.The funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home.Pastor Eugene Kipper of the Word Christian Center, Mohawk, will officiateThe family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donation may be made to Donate Life America, 701 East Byrd Street, Richmond, VA 23219.
