Obituary

HERKIMER Althea Sue Zimmer, age 96, of North Washington Street, Herkimer, formerly of Mohawk passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning October 4, 2017 in Claxton Manor at Folts. She was born on October 29, 1920 in Deposit a daughter of the late James W. and Mae Davis Lockwood. Sue was raised and educated in Oneonta graduating from Oneonta High School with the Class of 1937. On July 29, 1957 she was united in marriage with Winfield H. Zimmer a blessed union of 39 years until his passing in 1996. Mrs. Zimmer was a Note Teller with the Marine Midland Bank in Herkimer for many years retiring in 1977. Althea was a service orientated person who served her community very well. She was a member of Crowley Barnum Post No. 25 Ladies Auxillary, Ilion Hospital Guild, Treasurer of the Zonta Club, American Cancer Society Board, Polish Club, the first woman to be chosen to Finance Committee at the State Level of the Mohawk Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, and a Charter Member of M.O.V.A.C. Surviving her are one son Jon Kinney and his wife Joyce of Bogota, TX, a sister Janice Finch of Milford, three grandchildren; Jon Kinney, Jr and his wife Anna of Munnsville, Kathleen Whaley of Verona, Brian Kinney and his wife Brenda of Santa Clara, CA, four great-grandchildren Jon Kinney, III of Denver, CO, Evan Kinney of Munnsville, Matthew Whaley of Verona, and Blake Kinney of Santa Clara, CA. Besides her parents and husband Winfield she was preceded in death by seven brothers, Durel, Irving, Theodore, William, Lawrence, Dean, and Charles Lockwood. A graveside service will be held on Saturday October 14th at 10:00 am in Mohawk Cemetery with the Reverend Steven Scarcia, officiating. There will be no calling hours.
