SCHUYLER LAKE - Alveda Esther Simonds age 90 formerly of State Highway # 28 passed away on Sunday evening January 18, 2009 in the Otsego Manor, Cooperstown. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side.
She was born on June 4, 1918 in the town of Warren, daughter of the late Lorenzo and Ida Mae Dawley Sammons. A lifelong resident of SchulerLake she was educated in both Hyder and Richfield Springs Central Schools. Alveda was married to William Simonds who preceded her in death in January of 1979.
For thirty-two years Mrs. Simonds worked as a sewing machine operator the last twenty-one years for Duofold Company, retiring in June of 1980.
Mrs. Simonds had a true sense of community. She was a member of the Fly Creek Valley Grange # 790 and the Exeter Historical Society. She had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Schuyler Lake United Methodist Church. Alveda will always be remembered as a caring, loving and hopeful person who always enjoyed doing for others. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her daughter, Shirley and her husband Roy of Schuyler Lake, a son-in-law, Eugene Lincourt of Cooperstown, four grandchildren, Sandra Foster and her companion Bruce Earls of Sprout Brook, Randall Foster of Schuyler Lake, Leo Lincourt of Cherry Valley, Donald Lincourt of Schenevus, a cherished great-grandson, Jacob Lincourt, one niece, Joyce Mack of TN, and her devoted canine Lola. Besides her parents and husband William, she was predeceased by a daughter Lucille Lincourt, two brothers, Arnold and Lewis Sammons, two sisters, Laney Sammons and Daryl Hall.
Funeral service will be on Thursday at 2:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40West James Street, Richfield Springs. The Reverend Thomas Pullyblank, Pastor of the Schuyler Lake United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will take place later this spring in Schuyler Lake Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends Thursday one hour prior to the funeral service. (1:00 until 2:00 pm). Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Susquehanna ASPCA. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
