ILION-Alyce M. Congdon, age 74, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, June 9, 2017 in her home. She had the comfort and support of her loving family at her side. She was born on June 11, 1943, in Herkimer, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Stella Seely Edick. A lifelong area resident she was educated in Mohawk. On July 16, 1960 she was united in marriage to David E. Congdon, Sr. They shared a loving and devoted union of 26 years until his passing on May 23, 1986. For many years she worked in various factories. She retired from the Guilford Company of East Herkimer to take care of her grandchildren. In her leisure time she enjoyed playing card games especially garbage rummy and lately triple Yahtzee and going puzzles. Mostly she enjoyed her time with her family. She will be fondly remembered as a strong willed, kind, independent woman who was truly devoted to her family and friends. She was always there to lend a caring hand never looking for anything in return. If you were her friend, you had a lifelong friendship. She will be sadly missed. Surviving are one son, James of Ilion, two daughters, Tracey Goodson and her husband Michael of Herkimer, Starlene Treusdell of Little Falls, one brother, Keith Edick and his wife Angie of Rosemont, MN, three sisters, Beverly Gomez and her husband Joe of Canajoharie, Shirley Eberle of Utica, Donna Reed of Newport, sixteen cherish grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two daughters-in law, Karen and Christine Congdon, both of Mohawk, son-in-law, Andrew Jasewicz of Herkimer, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves two very special people, who helped care for her during the past three months, her sister-in-law Geraldine Goldstein of Herkimer and Janet Spraker of Richfield Springs. Their kindness and support will never be forgotten. Besides her husband David Sr., she was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Pamela Jean and Julie Marie Congdon, a daughter Robyn Jasewicz on March 8, 2010, two sons, David Congdon Jr, on July 12, 2014 and William Congdon on November 19, 2015, and a sister Elaine Reed. Calling hours for Mrs. Congdon will be on Monday morning from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. A funeral service will follow immediately after at 12J) noon in the funeral home with Pastor Daniel Parise officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc.. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
