HERKIMER-Anna (Bortniak) Allen age 92 a lifelong area resident passed away on Sunday March 13, 2016 in Galax, VA.
She was born on May 20, 1923 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Arthur and Anastazia (Wan) Bortniak. Anna was raised in Herkimer where she attended local schools and graduated from Herkimer High School with the class of 1941. She also attended the Utica School of Commerce for Bookkeeping.
Anna worked for many years at Standard Furniture Company in Herkimer and was last employed at Mohawk Data Sciences in East Herkimer. She retired in 1985. Her marriage to Edward Skip Allen took place on June 20, 1947 in the First United Methodist Church Herkimer. Following her marriage they settled in Herkimer. They shared a blessed union of sixty-eight years and together spent the last year and a half living near her nephew Don and his family in Galax, VA. Anna enjoyed cooking, baking, shopping, being a homemaker, ceramics and had a knack for bookkeeping and accounting.
Survivors include her husband Edward W. Skip Allen, a nephew, Donald Bortniak and his wife Liz (Franz) and their son, great nephew Jake all of Galax, VA, great nephew Jason Bortniak and his wife Jessica( Gulmi) of Manhattan, great niece, Katie Bortniak of Wexford, PA, niece, Patricia Cofrancesco and her husband Jim of Liverpool, their children great niece Fay and her finance Mike Ellison of Whitehall, MD, great nephew James and his wife Jena of Liverpool, nephew Charles Allen of Mohawk, nephew Edward Allen of Covington, LA, his two sons, great nephews Kenneth from Covington, LA and Edward of Herkimer, niece Julianne Allen of Frankfort and her son, great nephew Michael Yelle Jr. of Ilion, nephew Allen Desmond and his wife Linda (Vokins) of Ilion, and their children, great-nephews, Frank Bud of Middleville, Corey of FL, and great-nieces, Joelle of FL, Danielle of ID, nephew Thomas Allen and his wife Pam (Paragi) of Colorado Springs, CO. and his children great-nephews, Scott of Whitesboro, Thomas Jr. of Mohawk, Christopher and his wife Tracey of Herkimer, great-niece, Kari Ann Slaughter of Ilion nephew, Timothy Allen of New Hartford and nephew, Theodore Allen of Idaho.
She was preceded in death her father-in-law, Edward C. Allen and mother-in-law Carrie (Stadler), sister Christine (Bortniak) Peknik and her husband Daniel, brother Andrew Bortniak and his wife Mary, sister, Mary (Bortniak) Myers and her husband Robert, niece Kathleen (Varano) Bortniak, sister-in-law, Ruth (Allen) Desmond and her husband Cornelius, nephew, Donald Desmond, brother-in-law Robert Allen and his wife Peggy, niece Theresa (Allen) Winn, brother-in-law Charles Allen and his wife Fay.
The family will be present to receive friends and relatives on Saturday from 9:30 am to 10:30 am in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am in the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls with the Reverend Janet Gleason, Pastor officiating. Interment will take place in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls.
Annas departing wish, Im gone, do not grieve for me. Just think of the good times we enjoyed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Annas name be made to the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI), 507 Kent Street, Utica, NY 13501.
