RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Anna Kurilo Karpowich age 95 of Bronner Manor Apartments, passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 29, 2013 in Folts Homes, Herkimer.She had the comfort of her loving family at her side.
She was born on January 31, 1918 in Beacon Falls, CT, daughter of the late Orest and Mary Demchko Kurilo. A lifelong Richfield Springs resident; she was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School. On September 16, 1939 she was united in marriage with Anthony W. Karpowich in Saint Johns Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs.Together they shared a loving and devoted union of nearly fifty years until his passing on August 26, 1989.For many years they owned and operated a dairy farm on Dugan Road in the town of Columbia. For seventeen years Anna worked at Vaughns Poultry farm where Roger and Diane Vaughn became her very dear friends.
In her leisure time she will always be remembered for her love of crocheting doilies and angels.She was also an avid reader.
Surviving are two daughters, Judy Karpowich of Ilion, Rose Karpowich Gala and her husband John of Cedarville, a brother, Peter Kurilo of South Columbia, three grandchildren, Rebecca Hawranick and her husband John, Christina Woodell and her husband James, John A. Gala and his wife Sharon, five great grandchildren, Aruzhan and Anastasia Hawranick. Callie, Collin and Griffin Woodell, several nieces and nephews and cousins including a special niece Mary Halkowich Jaques and her husband George as well as several relatives from the Alexczuk, Borowicz, Dzula, Entwistle, Karpowich and Merrick families.She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Anthony, sister Julia and brother-in-law Metro Halkowich as well as relatives of the Alexczuk, Borowicz Dzula, Entwistle and Karpowich families.
A graveside funeral service will take place on Saturday June 8th at 10:00am in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs where she will be laid to rest.At Mrs. Karpowichs request, there are no calling hours.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad or the Cedarville Volunteer Fire Department.Envelopes will be available at the cemetery service.Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.
