JORDANVILLE - Anna Pronko, age 90, of State Route # 167, passed away on Friday morning February 14, 2003, in Saint Lukes Memorial Medical Center, New Hartford after a brief illness.
She was born on November 9, 1912 in Olyphant, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Louis and Eva Shyron Yuszczek. Anna attended school in Pennsylvania before returning to Poland, Europe with her family. She spent her adolescent years in Poland. In 1933 she returned to the United States and was employed in New York City. In 1934 she married Simeon Pronko in New York City. They shared a loving and devoted union of fifty-four years until his passing in 1988.
She and her husband moved to the Jordanville area in 1937 where they purchased a dairy farm. They owned and operated the farm until 1968 when they retired.
Anna took pride in being a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and reading. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her friends and family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are one daughter; Mary and her husband Peter Bertsch of RI, two sons and their wives: John and Marlys Pronko of Jordanville, Michael and Moira Pronko of Florida, a sister Stella Chruszcz, seven grandchildren; George Bertsch and his wife Carolyn, Andrew Bertsch and his wife Tracy, Janet Rae and her husband Steven, David and Steven Pronko, Karen and Lisa Pronko and nine great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents and husband Simeon she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Scherba and Julia Yuszczek In keeping with Annas wishes there are no calling hours and a private funeral service was held. Mrs. Pronko will be laid to rest in the Highland Rural Cemetery, Jordanville later this spring at a time to be announced.
