Obituary

HERKIMER-Anne L. Marvin age 81 formerly of Middleville passed away on Monday morning April 27, 2015 in Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center. She was born on June 25, 1933 in Fillmore, NY daughter of the late John and Edna Gilman Marvin. Anne was raised in Fillmore and was a graduate of Fillmore High School. She furthered her education receiving a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics at Cornell University. After her graduation from college, she came to Herkimer where for twenty-five years; she was the 4-H Program Director for the Cornell Cooperative Extension. In 1984 she was made the Executive Director of the Mohawk Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross. During her tenure as director she oversaw the growth of the chapter from a two room office on North Main Street to a much larger facility on North Washington Street. She was cited by the National Red Cross as an outstanding Chapter Executive. She retired in 1994. Anne had a strong sense of community; she was a member of Herkimer County Historical Society, served as a village trustee for the Village of Middleville, served on the Board of Folts Home, the Residents Committee and was the 2008 "Angel Appeal" Chairperson at Folts Home. In 2010 she was the recipient of the Clara Barton Award at the annual Great Heroes Breakfast. To all who knew Anne she was a lady that got things done. She had made many accomplishments over the years but always remained low key and humble. She will be sadly missed. Surviving are: a niece, Martha Lorshbaugh and her husband Al of Pavilion, their sons, "Guy" of Portland, OR, and Lucas of Pavilion, a nephew Mark VanOrder of Houston, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Charles, sister, Jeanne, and longtime friend, Dolores Veit with whom she shared her home in Middleville. Calling hours for Anne will be on Sunday from 12:00 noon until 1: 00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm in the funeral home with The Reverend Janet Gleason, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to your local chapter of the American Red Cross or the charity choice.
