Annette (Annie) K. Reeder, age 84, passed away peacefully on Monday evening February 8, 2016 in Valley Health Services, Inc., Herkimer.
She was born on July 3, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of the late Ellis and Minnie Diperstein Kaplan.
She attended South Philadelphia High School for Girls, graduating in 1949. Within months of her graduation, she met her future husband, Harry. They were married in 1951 and sent over 64 years together, relocating later from Philadelphia to Ft. Benning, GA, Levittown, PA, and Williamston, Raleigh and Shelby, NC before coming to Herkimer, where they lived for over 45 years, raising their four daughters, Lori, Susan, Wendy and Erika.
During the early years of their marriage she was employed as a financial secretary in Philadelphia, PA and Columbus, GA
She served two terms as President of Temple Beth Joseph, as well as President of the Sisterhood. She worked for the Bureau of Census, volunteered at Hospice, and was the founder and president of the Mohawk Valley Neuropathy Support Group. For many years she worked as an inspector at local voting locations, always sharing her friendly smile and personality with others.
Annette loved to socialize and organized a Herkimer Red Hat Ladies Group, was involved with the Herkimer High School Band Booster, and played Mah Jong, canasta, pinochle and rummy cube with her lady friends and family. She enjoyed doing cross-stitching in her younger years and she and Harry took turns solving the daily Jumble and crossword puzzles.
She looked forward to wintering in Myrtle Beach for the past 17 years where she made many friends, extended herself to others, and organized a Ladies Lunch Bunch Group. It was there that she became known as Annie, and the name stuck. Her grandchildren called her Nanny Annie.
She was happiest when surrounded by family and her loving husband, and she always enjoyed and looked forward to visits from her grandchildren.
Annette is predeceased by her parents and her sister Ruth Wolf. She is survived by her husband Harry Reeder of Herkimer, daughters Lori Reeder of Lebanon, NJ, Susan (Mitchell) Frost of Ballston Spa, Wendy Pagano of Latham, and Erika (David) Gillespie of Delmar, six grandchildren, Emily, Miriam, Ethan, Reed, Matthew and Danny and her sister Helene (Ed) Rifkin.
