HERKIMER - Anthony R. Frankewich age 84 of King Street, passed away on Tuesday afternoon June 6, 2006 in Saint Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford.
He was born on August 5, 1921 in Little Falls, son of the late Frank and Mary Pocharecki Frankewich. Tony was raised on the family farm near Cooperstown and was a graduate of Hartwick High School and had attended Utica College . He played professional baseball and at one time pitched for the Washington Senators. During World War II he served with the US Air Force in England where he met his wife the former Emily M. Flavell. They were united in marriage on March 1, 1946 in Saint Joseph s Church, Herkimer, a blessed union of forty years until her passing on November 27, 1986.
For many years Mr. Frankewich worked as stock broker for Bache & Co. and later for Merrill Lynch.
Mr. Frankewich loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and gardener. He was a familiar figure in Herkimer in his later years as he walked about town doing his daily errands.
Surviving are one son Raymond Frankewich of Columbia, MD, three daughters, Mary Laurents of Columbia, MD, Maureen Quinn of Chantilly, VA, Emily and her husband Virgil Moorefield of Ann Arbor, MI, one brother, Walter Frankewich of TN, one Sister Frances, one granddaughter, Dayan Feldman of Columbia, MD, one great granddaughter, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and wife Emily he was preceded in death by a brother Stanley Frankewich this past week.
The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer on Friday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. Funeral service and interment will take place at a later time convenient to the family.
