RICHFIELDSPRINGS-AnthonyF. Vertucci, 85, of Woodside Avenue, died peacefully on Friday evening, February 25, 2000, in The Meadows, Cooperstown. Hewas born on June 21,1914, in Richfield Springs, son of the late C. Antonio andElizabeth Famulare Vertucci. Alifelong Richfield Springs resident, he was a graduate of Richfield Springs HighSchool. On June 6, 1936, he marriedAnna Burke in St. Josephs Church, Richfield Springs.A loving and devoted union of 45 years until her passing on April 27,1981. For 33 years Tony worked forSuburban Propane, retiring as Regional Manager in 1979.On May 22, 1982 he married Helen VanValkenburg Pratt in the Church ofChrist Uniting, Richfield Springs. Hisleisure time was spent hunting, fishing and gardening.A member of St. Josephs Church, he loved his community and was activein community life. He served as avillage trustee in the 1950s and was elected mayor in the mid 1960s.He was a member of the Richfield Springs Rotary Club, Richfield SpringsHistorical Association, and Richfield Springs Chamber of Commerce.Tony had been a board member of the Canadarago Lake ImprovementAssociation, where he served on the committee for water testing.He was involved with the bandstand reconstruction in the park and theerection of the sign for entering Richfield Spring coming from SpringfieldCenter. Both the Daughter of theAmerican Revolution and the Richfield Springs Chamber of Commerce honored himwith awards for his community service. Surviving him besides his wife Helen, are twosons andtheir wives,Anthony Jr.and Jean Vertucciof Baldwinsville, Lawrence and Frances Vertucci of Syracuse; two daughters andtheir husbands Anne and John Reilly of Ossining, MaryEllen and Alfred Edwards ofCarmel; a step-son Kenneth Pratt and his wife Barbara of Spencerport; astep-daughter Beverly Pratt Strather of Avon; two brothers Frederick Vertucci ofRichfield Springs, James Vertucci of Stone Ridge, five sisters, Grace Avery ofNew Hartford, Margaret Lasher of Weaverville, NC, Rose Edick, Theresa Vertucciand Anna Edick all of Richfield Springs; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Hewas preceded in death by his brother Joseph Vertucci, and two sisters, MaryBrown and Elizabeth Lyon. Funeralfrom J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs, onWednesday at 9:30 a.m. Massof Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. Josephs Church RichfieldSprings with the Reverend Terence Healy, officiating.Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery Richfield Springs will take place laterthis spring. The family willreceive friends and relatives on Tuesday evening 4-8 p.m. in J. SeatonMcGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs Inthe 1970s, Mr. Vertucci and his siblings established a fund, which providesan annual scholarship to a graduating senior at Richfield Springs CentralSchool. This award is presented inmemory of their parents. Memorialdonations may be made to the scholarship fund or the Richfield Springs VolunteerFire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home
