MOHAWK - Arnold J. Wells, age 66 of State Route 5-S, died unexpectedly on Thursday, December 23, 2004 in his home. He was born on July 13, 1938, son of the late Clarence and Florence (Megan) Wells and the youngest of fourteen children. A lifelong area resident, he attended Little Falls High Schools. On April 14, 1962 he married the former Grace A. Congdon in Little Falls. They shared a devoted union of 35 years until her passing in on February 21, 1997. He was currently employed as a truck driver with Gypsum Express, of Baldwinsville. On April 8, 2000, he married the former Janis Allen in Mohawk. Arnie had a great love for county and western and Honda motorcycles. He relished his rides on the country roads on his gold wing Honda. He will be remembered as a honest man who held strong convections with his faith. This helped him through lives tragedies. Surviving are his son Rodney J. Wells of Ilion, , six grandchildren, Rachael, Kayla, Joshua, Sarah, Brandon and Eric, one brother Darrel Wells, of Tenn, three sisters, Rosamond Pennucci of Schuyler, Eleanor Markwardt of Little Falls, Jean Foley and her husband Robert of Louisana, brothers and sister in laws and their family, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and wife Grace he was preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters, and his daughter, Melissa A. Steenburgh, two grandsons, Daniel, Josiah and her unborn son, on March 23, 2004 as a result of a tragic house fire. The family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home Inc.,115 Court Street, Herkimer to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 10:30 am in First Assemble of God Church, Little Falls. Interment will be held next spring in Inghams Mills Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Herkimer County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
