SPRINGFIELDAustin Hall Mike Weeks, age 96, formerly of Springfield Center died on Thursday afternoon, January 4, 2007 in the home of his daughter in Cooperstown. He was born on October 28, 1910 in the town of Springfield and was the third son of Earl R. and Myrtle C. Bennett Weeks. Mike was a lifelong resident of Springfield Center where he was raised, educated, and worked the family farm. On September 7, 1940 he was united in marriage with the former Iva M. Willsey in Springfield Center. Theirs was a loving and devoted union of nearly forty-four years until her passing on August 8, 1984. After his retirement from farming in 1970, he and his wife moved to their new home on Route # 80 in Springfield. For several years he worked for the Springfield Cemetery Association. Mr. Weeks had a strong belief in God and was a member of the First Baptist Church Springfield. Austin was known as Uncle Mike to his many friends and family. He had a great sense of humor and was a joy to all who knew and loved him. He loved spending time with his family, working on old gas engines and enjoying his artistic talent for wood carving. Mike was very fond of animals and especially the company of his Quaker parrot, Rufus. He was a friend to many and will never be forgotten. Surviving him are two sons, Robert Alan Weeks of Brooklyn, Stephen Austin Weeks and his wife Maria (Rosie) of Southampton, PA, one daughter, Judith Ann Henrici and her husband Peter of Cooperstown, a brother, Charles Weeks of Utica, seven grandchildren, M. Anne Weeks of Cooperstown, Tina Traczykiewicz of Philadelphia, PA, Benjamin Weeks of Willow Grove, PA, Micah Weeks of Southampton, PA, Michael Henrici of Manhattan, Brian and Erin Henrici of Cooperstown, seven great grandchildren, Jonathan, Angelica, Lillian, Nadia, Dylan, Nathanial and Zachary, several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife Iva he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leslie and J. Arnold Weeks and a sister, Edith Beck. Funeral service will be on Sunday at 4:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. Interment will take place in Springfield Center Cemetery at a later date. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Sunday two hours prior to the funeral service (2:00 to 4:00pm). Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations in Austins name to the Catskill area Hospice or the Susquehanna SPCA.
