Obituary

Ava J. LehrVAN HORNESVILLE-Ava J. Lehr, 69, of Chyle Road, died on Saturday morning August 5, 2000 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. She was born on August 16, 1930 in Van Hornesville, daughter of the late George and Esther Eckler Tennant. A lifelong Van Hornesville resident she was educated there as well. On January 21, 1949 she married Francis L. Lehr in Johnstown. Along with maintaining her home and caring her family, Mrs. Lehr at one time worked for the H. P. Snyder Co., Little Falls, the Burroughs's Paper Mill Co. and for nineteen years with Titan Homes, retiring in 1993. Her leisure time was spent taking care of her flower gardens, bird watching, crocheting and following her soap operas on television. Up until a few years ago she was an active bowler. Surviving besides her husband of fifty-one years Francis are 2 sons; Rory Lehr and his companion Heidi Hutcherson of Van Hornesville, Raymond Snyder and his wife Dyan of Burlington Flats; four daughters, Georgia Lehr and her companion Tim Luft of St. Johnsville, Wanda Lehr of Broadalbin, Debra and her husband Kenneth Schaner of St. Johnsville, Jamie and her husband John Baker of Van Hornesville; three brothers, and their wives, Harvey and Sharlene Tennant of VanHornesville, Vaughn and Patricia Tennant, Donald and Eunice Tennant all of Little Falls; three sisters Altana Swank of St. Johnsville, Barbara and her husband John Potts of Amsterdam, Beverly Tennant of Ft. Plain; seventeen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service will be on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs with the Reverend Kenneth Dingman officiating. Interment will follow in Van Hornesville Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Monday from 5-8 p.m. Memorial donation may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
