HERKIMER - Barbara Mary Brown, 86, of Sherwood Acres Drive, passed away on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 21, 2006, in Valley Health Services Inc. after a long illness. She was born Feb. 3, 1919, in Herkimer, daughter of the late Frank F. and Grace Lloyd Folts. Barbara was raised in Herkimer and was a graduate of Herkimer High School. She furthered her education by graduating from the Utica School of Commerce. On May 5, 1951, she married Robert Brown in the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer. The Rev. Fred Cotnam officiated. During their marriage she and her husband had resided in Fort Plain, Endwell and Richfield Springs before returning to live in Herkimer. For 10 years she worked as an aide for Cornell Cooperative Extension in Herkimer, retiring in 1985. Barbara will always be remembered as being full of love, life and laughter. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The special memories of her will always live in our hearts. Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Robert; a son, Charles Robert Brown of Oakland, Calif.; two daughters, Susan Wener of Nelliston and Cynthia Cheney of Essex Junction, Vt.; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Folts (former Herkimer County Sheriff), Lt. Col. John Folts and son-in-law Donald Wener. A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, May 5, at 11 a.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Wrightson Tongue, pastor of the First United Church Herkimer/Little Falls, will officiate. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory with donations to Valley Health Services Inc. or Hospice Inc. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home Inc., Herkimer.
