Obituary

MOHAWK Barbara Ann Davis, age 76 of Putts Hill Road, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 in Faxton-St. Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on September 20, 1936, in Cooperstown, daughter of the late Leo and Gladys Hagen Gorney. Barbara was raised in Sussex, NJ, where she graduated High School. In 1967 she moved to Mohawk coming from Sussex and on July 22, 1978 was united in marriage with Joseph Davis in Herkimer. They shared a loving and devoted union of thirty-two years until his passing on December 5, 2010. Mrs. Davis first worked as a bookkeeper for the B. Marriott Chevrolet dealership in Herkimer and then for C.P. Craska Inc., trucking company in Ilion. In more recent years she worked at the food counter at K-Mart in Herkimer. She retired in 2004. Barbara enjoyed her home and living in German Flatts. She was a member of the Friends of German Flatts, was quite involved with the Revolutionary and Civil War re-enactments and the many activities at the Fort Herkimer Reformed Church. To all who knew Barbara they will never forget a warm, gentle and caring lady. In her leisure time she loved to bake pies, cookies and cakes and sharing them to everyones delight. Most of all she was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family especially her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be truly missed. Surviving are four sons, Gary Gorney of Minot, ND, Thomas Davis and his wife Patti of Smithland, KY, Bruce Davis and his wife Tracey Richard-Davis of Lake Oswego, OR, Gary Davis and his wife Kimberly of Herkimer, one brother, Butch Gorney and his wife Faye of Sacramento, CA, a sister Joan Buest of West Davenport, thirteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces nephews and cousins. Calling hours for Mrs. Davis will be on Saturday from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. Funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. with the Reverend Victor McKusick officiating. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer will be private and at the convenience of the family. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donation to the Herkimer County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
