MOHAWK – Barbara J. Hurteau, age 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 19, 2024, in Little Falls Hospital. She was born on July 24, 1941, in Herkimer, a daughter of the late Elmer and Mary (Burns) King. She was raised and educated in Herkimer, graduating high school with the class of 1959. On July 9, 1966, she married Arthur H. Hurteau in Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer. They shared a devoted union of 30 years until his passing on December 12, 1996. Barbara had worked at UNIVAC, then as a home health care giver for Catholic Charities. She later opened the B & H ceramic shop in Mohawk.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, doing puzzles and her fur babies. Barbara's time with family was most important. Her loving nature and strength were influential in their lives andgreatly admired by her family and friends. She touched the lives of many, and her love will live on.
Surviving are a son, Keith Hurteau, a daughter, Jean Hurteauand her finance Chris all of Mohawk, three grandchildren, Tiffany and her fiancée Mike, Mary and her fiancée Nick and Zachary, three great-grandchildren, Iliza, Jackson, and Hadley,and special niece, Peggy and her husband John Tyler. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother Ronald King.
A graveside service will take place later this spring in Oak Hill Cemetery. There are no calling hours. For those wishing you may donate to the Breast Cancer Fund or Herkimer Humane Society. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home Inc. Herkimer.
