JORDANVILLE - Barbara Helen Manning, age 81, passed away peacefully on her birthday January 23, 2019, after a day of celebrating with her loving family.
Barbara was born on January 23, 1938 in Lebanon, CT. to the late Arnold and Lilly (Krause) Bender. She was raised in Lebanon and graduated from Lyman Memorial High School, where she was chosen for the All State Choir.
On August 31, 1958, she married Charles Albert Manning in Lebanon, Ct. They shared a loving and devoted marriage of forty-seven years until his passing on October 12, 2005. In 1978, Barbara and Charles began a new chapter in their lives, when they purchased Renegade Farm, in Jordanville, NY.
Barbara had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Lutheran Life. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer.
Barbara was dedicated to her family, home and community. She was active in the Richfield Springs Community Center and served on their Board of Directors. She gave unconditional love and encouragement to each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was very proud of each of them. Her sisters held a special place in her heart and she always loved their sisterly adventures. Barbara could have been called the first soccer mom, transporting, juggling and attending all of the childrens events, which carried over to her grandchildren. She loved gardening and found peace and tranquility in being outdoors. She was outgoing and friendly and will also be remembered for her nurturing ways, and devotion to her family. The family was known to break into song anywhere they were with Barbara leading the way.
Surviving are her children, Jacqueline Hinckley of Richfield Springs; Jeffrey Manning and his wife, Cynthia of Whitesboro; Gerald Manning and his wife, Amy of Jordanville; Gary Manning and his wife, Susan; Glenn Manning and his wife, Erlene; all of Herkimer; Joanne Belcourt and her husband, Richard of Cramerton NC, 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, three sisters, Dorothy Stevens; Marion Russo and her husband, Roland; Linda Russo and her husband, Robert all of Lebanon, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
Besides her parents and husband Charles, she was preceded in death by a sister Elizabeth Howard and a son-in-law John Hinckley.
Barbaras family would like to thank the staff at Foltsbrook for her care, especially the ones that treated her like family.
Calling hours at Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St, Herkimer, will be on Sunday from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will be on Sunday at 4:30 pm in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. A graveside service will be on Monday, January 28th at 1:00 p.m. in New Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, CT.
