HERKIMER-Barbara Jean Richer age 84 passed away peacefully on Saturday October 17, 2020 in Valley Health Services, Inc. She was born on January 26, 1936 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Robert and Martha Robinson Hayes. A lifelong area resident, she was raised in Frankfort and was a graduate of Frankfort High School. On September 15, 1956 she was united in marriage to Harold C. "Red" Richer in Frankfort. They shared a loving and devoted union of forty-eightyears until his passing on May 14, 2005. For more than twenty-five years she was secretary to the president of Special Metals in New Hartford. She retired in1998. Mrs. Richer had a strong faith in God and was a member of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls. In her leisure time she enjoyed sewing, knitting and trips to the Turning Stone Casino. To her many friends she will always be remembered as a kind, caring and loving lady. She will be sadly missed. Surviving her, are one sister Beverly Joan Smithers of Herkimer, a brother. Edward Hayes and his wife Esther of New Hartford, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Harold she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Donald Hayes, one sister, Doris Humphrey. Funeral service and interment in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls were private and at the convenience of the family.
