HERKIMER – Barbara Zemzars, age 72, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 in her home. Born in Germany on September 18, 1950, she was the daughter of the late August and Victoria (Brokans) Zemzars. As a young child the family moved to the United States settling in Little Falls where she was raised and educated. She graduated from Little Falls High School. For many years she worked for Herkimer County in the Civil Service Office, retiring as a Personnel Assistant on July 30, 2016. Barbara spent her life serving others, as a volunteer for Herkimer Hospice, Herkimer Historical Society with their house tours, ushering at the Stanley Theater or as an auxiliary member of the Little Falls Legion, she was always willing to lend a helping hand. She had a talent for decorating. However her first love was her devotion to her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. She was gentle, caring, and a faithful friend. She will be missed by those who knew her and loved her. Surviving are her daughter Michele Gilbert and her husband William of Herkimer, two granddaughters, Cassandra Gilbert and her companion, Brian Mula of Burlington, NC, and Danielle Gilbert of Herkimer. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers George and John Zemzars and her longtime companion, Richard Young A memorial service for Barbara Zemzars, will be on Monday July 24 at 1:00PM in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc. 115 Court Street, Herkimer.
