SCHUYLER LAKE - Benjamin W. Bibik age 83 of Church Street passed away peacefully on Saturday October 6, 2001 in the Meadows, Cooperstown.
He was born on August 28, 1918 in Hartwick, son of the late William and Rose Janice Bibik. Ben was raised and educated in Richfield Springs. On April 26, 1969 he married Alberta Kinney in Richfield Springs, a loving union of twenty-nine years until her passing on October 22, 1998.
For over twenty-five years he owned and operated his own dairy farm in the Town of Richfield, retiring in 1967. He was a member of the Schuyler Lake Volunteer Fire Department, the Otsego County Farm Bureau where he was a past president and was a member of the Eastern Milk Producers. Ben was a friend to many and will never be forgotten.
Surviving him are three sons; Dennis Chapman of Utica, Bradford Chapman and his wife Joann of Schuyler Lake, Gregory Chapman of Daytona, FL, one daughter; Bonita VanAlstine and her husband Greg of Schuyler Lake, two brothers; Vincent and his wife Katherine Bibik of Fayetteville, Harold Bibik of Rome, four sisters; Frances Newsome and her husband Robert of Richmond, VA, Mary Anderchek and her husband James of South Columbia, Elizabeth Eaton of Schoharie, Josephine Bibik of Richmond, VA ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife Alberta his son Charles Bibik preceded him in death in 1977.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. The Reverend John Young will officiate. Interment will follow in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Richfield Springs. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends Wednesday one hour prior to the memorial service (10:00 until 11:00 AM). Memorial donations may be made to the Schuyler Lake Volunteer Fire Department or the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
