Obituary

MANLIUS - Benny J. Ulinski, 89, of Tyler Court, Manlius, formerly of Richfield Springs, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 10, 2007, in his home. He was born March 27, 1918, in Utica, son of the late Joseph and Wanda Palaszewski Ulinski. Benny was raised in Utica and was educated in Utica Public Schools. An honorably discharged World War II veteran, he first enlisted in the United States Army in 1938 and served until 1941. He rejoined the war effort in 1942, enlisting with the United States Marine Corps. He served with the First Marine Division Reinforced and fought at Guadalcanal. He was honored with a citation from the United States secretary of the Navy for "Demonstrating outstanding gallantry and determination in successfully executing the assault and defense of the British Solomon Islands at Guadal Canal." He was honorably discharged in 1945. For 26 years, Mr. Ulinski worked as a truck driver for Local Teamsters Union No. 317, retiring in 1980.Benny was an exceptional man who was well respected by his many friends and family. He was an enduring individual who held a special love and devotion for his wife, Betty. In spite of life's drawbacks he was always there for her and stood by her. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Betty; two nephews, Stanley "Skip" Ulinski Jr. of Hyde Park, Vt., and William S. Ulinski of Rainbow Lake; along with many other nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley J. Ulinski Sr., and Chester Ulinski; and a stepbrother, Mitchell Ulinski. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, with Nancy Brown, Parish Community Director of Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
