FRANKFORT - Bernadette M. Ensminger age 83 of South Litchfield Street , formerly of Maple Lane , Ilion passed away on Sunday afternoon July 9, 2006 in the Albany Medical Center , Albany . She had the peace and comfort of her loving son and daughter at her side.
She was born on July 30, 1922 in Rome , daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Hatzinger LaPlante. Bernadette was raised in Rome and was a graduate of Saint Aloysius School. On December 29, 1945 she was united in marriage with John B. Ensminger in Saint Peters Church, Rome . A loving and devoted union of forty-six years until his passing in March of 1992. She and her husband moved from Rome to Herkimer where she first went to work for Loblaws on Mohawk Street and then for over twenty years worked as Merchandising Manager for the
Mrs. Ensminger has lived in Frankfort for the past year coming from Herkimer then Ilion where she had lived for fifteen years. She led a devoted Catholic life and was a member of Saint Francis deSales Church Herkimer.
Bernadette will always be remembered as being full of life and love by her family and many friends. She enjoyed playing cards and going on shopping trips. She was active in the Town of Herkimer Senior Citizens and was a member of the Valley Helpers where she would write holiday cards for the residents at Valley Health Services as well as fund raising and many other ways that she could help those in need. She was a generous supporter of her many favorite charities including the American Lung Association, St Francis deSales Church Bishops Fund, the Veterans Administration and the Heart Association to name only a few. In her leisure time she liked to read, knit, crochet and do an array of arts and crafts. She was a friend to many and will be missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are son, John J. Ensminger, daughter Cheryl and her husband Patrick Kirk all of Herkimer, sister, Anita LaBelle of Port St Lucie, FL, two grandchildren, Kevin and his wife Tara Kirk of Kingsport, TN and Travis Kirk of Cary, NC, two great grandchildren Hayley and Ashlyn Kirk both of Kingsport, TN, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Jack she was preceded in death by a brother Joseph LaPlante.
Funeral from Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer on Wednesday at 10:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer at 11:00 am. The Reverend Mark Cunningham, Pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in the Rome Cemetery . The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm.
Memorial donations may be made to the Saint Francis deSales Church Bishops Appeal. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. All Town of Herkimer Senior Citizens are asked to meet at the funeral home on Tuesday at 4:15 pm to pay their respects.
