Obituary

MOHAWK-Bernard Hugick age 81 passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening July 19, 2016 in Saint Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica. He was surrounded with the love and comfort of his family by his side. He was born on September 22, 1934 in the town of Columbia, son of the late George and Mary Bukatko Hugick. Bernie was raised in Columbia and was educated in Richfield Springs. On December 27, 1954 he enlisted in the US Marine Corps. He proudly served in Lebanon, Greece, Turkey and Japan. He was honorably discharged on January 9, 1959 attaining the rank Sergeant. On September 15, 1962 he was united in marriage with the former Nancy Yaworski in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Little Falls. In 1969 he and his wife moved to Mohawk where he owned and operated the Hugick Dairy Farm for forty years. He retired in 2007. Mr. Hugick was a member of the Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post # 25 in Mohawk. In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching golf. An avid sports fan he was a follower of the Utica Comets and the New York Rangers and had attended many NHL games. He was also an NFL true blue New York Giants fan. Bernie will always be remembered as sincere, straight talking man with a fun sense of humor. Any conversation with him was straight and to the point yet you always felt a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be sadly missed. Surviving are his devoted wife of fifty-three years, Nancy, one son, Michael C. Hugick and his companion Annette Gauthier of Mohawk, a daughter, Lisa A. Gambacorta and friend Mike Gingell of Maryland, two grandchildren, Brandon Hugick and his wife Becky of Mohawk, Kimberly Seamon and her husband Todd of Richfield Springs, four great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews including a special nephew Mark Hugick and his wife Joy and several cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Frances Yaworski and three brothers, Edmond, Theodore and George Hugick Jr. A graveside funeral service with military honors provided by the US Marine Corps will be on Saturday at 11:00 am at Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Cemetery, Herkimer. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association. Envelopes will be available at J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs and Fenner Funeral Home, Inc. Herkimer. There are no calling hours. Please omit flowers or cards.
