Obituary

COLD BROOK - Bernard L. Miller, 82, of Skinner Road, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 3, 2001, in his home after a long illness with his loving family by his side. He was born Sept. 15, 1919, in Fairfield, son of the late Leon and Bertha Olds Miller. A lifelong area resident, he was raised and educated in Fairfield. During World War II, Bernie answered the call of his country by joining the U.S. Army Air Force. He served with the 2500th Division, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was honorably discharged in February of 1946. In September of 1947 he married Myrtle "Freda" Fralick in Vermont. For over 40 years he was employed by Sperry Rand Univac as a machinist, retiring in 1974. A resident of Cold Brook since 1970, he came here from the Stratford-Hinckley area. Bernie was a caring husband, devoted father and grandfather. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He loved animals, most of all his dog Jake. He had a keen interest in cars and loved his Cadillac. His leisure time was spent drinking coffee at the Blue Rose Restaurant. He will be greatly missed by many. Surviving besides his wife of 40 years, Freda, are their daughter, Judy Sommer and her husband Charles of Herkimer; a brother, Thomas Miller and his companion Connie of Florida; one sister, Beverly and her husband Robert Smith; seven grandchildren, Robert and his wife Carolyn, Sharie and her husband Michael, Bernie and his wife Kelly, Mark and his wife Tina, Danyel and her fianc John, John and his wife Tracy and Becky and her husband Scot; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A brother, Robert Miller, preceded him in death. Funeral service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer. The Rev. William Otis, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer, will officiate. Interment with full military honors being accorded will follow in Fairview Cemetery of Graysville. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Friday (today) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Herkimer County Public Health Service and the Sue Campagna Herkimer County Hospice for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
