RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Bessie S. Osterhoudt age 89 passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, November 28,2011 in Valley Health Services Inc.She had the comfort of her loving family at her side.
She was born on January 20, 1922 in Saint Johnsville, daughter of the late Morton and Gertrude Stock Stoddard.In 1930 Bessie, along with her family came to Richfield Springs from Little Falls. She was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School.
On August 1, 1943 she was united in marriage with Ralph Osterhoudt in Saint Johns Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs.They shared a loving and devoted union of sixty-six years until his passing on December 15, 2009.
A familiar face to all in Richfield Springs, for many years she was a waitress at the Palmer Hotel and for a short time she had worked at Shur-Catch until her retirement.
Mrs. Osterhoudt had a strong faith in God and was a member of Saint Johns Episcopal Church in Richfield Springs.She was also a Life Member and past president of the Richfield Springs American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Unit # 616 serving with them for more sixty years and a charter member of the Otsego County 40 & 8.In her leisure time she enjoyed doing needlepoint and took much pride in the many American flags that she had made.
Bessie will always be remembered as a warm, caring and loving lady with a great sense of humor and an unforgettable smile.She was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.She will be truly missed.
Surviving are a daughter, Janice Misencik and her companion John Buckley of Richfield Springs, three sons, Ralph Osterhoudt and his wife Sheila of Richfield Springs, Ronnie L. Osterhoudt and his wife Merry of Manassas, VA, Charles M. Osterhoudt of Richfield Springs, twelve grandchildren, , eleven great grandchildrenmany nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be on Friday at 11:00am in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs, with the Reverend John Young officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00pm.Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Valley Health Service or the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
