HERKIMER - Betty Jane Jones, 69, of 105 Protection Ave., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, in St. Luke's Medical Center, New Hartford. She had the comfort of her devoted family at her side.She was born on Jan. 25, 1937, in North Ilion, daughter of the late Harry B. Thompson and Bernice L. Wildey Thompson. A lifelong area resident, she was raised in Mohawk and was a graduate of Mohawk High School.
For 14 years she worked as a radio receiver for the General Electric Co. in Utica, retiring in 1972. A resident of Herkimer since 1988, she came here from Chadwicks.Betty had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Mohawk United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Tri-D class. In her leisure time, she found great pleasure in reading, doing puzzles, knitting and crocheting.All who knew her will remember her warm smile and friendly manner. She will be greatly missed by her many friends at the Nathan Galinsky Apartments and by her loving family.
Surviving are five sisters, Edith Gallogly and her husband Alden of Mohawk, Phyllis Moffatt and her husband Vernice of Herkimer, Donna Thompson of Mohawk, Susan Harkins of Mohawk and Pam Thompson of Adams Center; two brothers, Owen Parker of Ilion and David Parker of Mohawk; her step-mother, Jean Thompson of Mohawk; along with several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer. The Rev. Trish Johnson-Wright, associate pastor of Morning Star Ministries, will officiate. Interment will be in Mohawk Cemetery later this spring.The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Mohawk United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or the Herkimer County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.Mrs. Jones' family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to the nursing staff of the Critical Care Unit of St. Luke's Medical Center and Dr. Nelson and Dr. Cheryl Mattern for the care and compassion shown to Betty during her hospital stay.
