RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Betty M. Roberts, 73, of State Highway 28, entered into eternal rest Tuesday evening, Dec. 9, 2003, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. She had the comfort of her loving family at her bedside. She was born Sept. 3, 1930, in the town of Burlington, daughter of the late Harold and Alice Mae Jenkins Pierce. A lifelong area resident, she was educated in Basswood and Richfield Springs schools. On March 13, 1949, she married Charles E. Roberts in Waterville. Mrs. Roberts had worked as a seamstress in various clothing manufacturers in Richfield Springs and Herkimer, retiring in 1972. She had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Old Stone Church in Schuyler Lake. In her leisure time she found great pleasure in reading and knitting. To Betty, her family was foremost. She found great joy in the care and nurturing of being a devoted wife and mother. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She filled her family's lives with happiness and sweet memories that will stay in their hearts forever. Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Charles "Pat" Roberts; one son, Charles E. Roberts Jr.; three daughters and their husbands, Marilyn and Jon Grogan, Peggy and Thomas Dziadik, Virginia and Randy Nabinger, all of Richfield Springs; one sister, Laura Poulson of Cobleskill; 12 grandchildren, Brett Slocum, Kenneth Duncan, Casie Coley, Charles E. Roberts III, Jaclyn Roberts, Tanya Coley, Laura Duncan, Leah Duncan, Robert Coley, Joanna Onyan, Cory Grogan and Randy Lee Nabinger; three great-grandchildren, several in-laws and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs. The Rev. John Young will officiate.
