HERKIMER-Brayton E. Hotaling "Bud" age 60 of Park Avenue passed away on Thursday March 1, 2001 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica, with his loving family at his side. He was born on November 11, 1940 in Albany, son of the late Brayton E. and Helen Weber Hotaling. Bud was raised and educated in Albany. In 1958 he joined the United States Marine Corp where he proudly served until his honorable discharge in 1961. On October 28, 1967 he married Emma L. Smith in Arlington, VA. In 1968 they came to Herkimer where he was employed by Mohawk Data Sciences for twenty-one years. More recently he worked for the Burns Security Agency at Utica College until retiring in 1999. He was a member of American Legion Post # 0001. He will always be remembered for his good sense of humor and the love he had for his family and friends. Surviving besides his devoted wife of thirty-three years Emma are a son; Robert Hotaling and his fiance' Melissa Beth Cotton of Mount Airy, NC, a daughter; Deborah Ann Hotaling of Herkimer, three sisters; Judy and her husband Robert Payne of Cohoes, Geraldine Gardy of Albany, Margaret Restifo of Valatie, several nieces, nephews and his special in-laws ad their families; Robert and Mary Lee Smith, Keith Smith, Harold and Clinton Smith, Lucille and Don Pingilley, Wanda and Tom Hoy, JoAnn Smith, Carol and Dan Mathison, Mary Hotaling and special friend Tom Hoffman. Besides his parents a brother John Hotaling preceded him in death. Funeral service will be on Monday at 11:00 AM in the First United Methodist Church Herkimer, with the Reverend William Otis pastor officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM in FENNER FUNERAL HOME Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
