Obituary

HERKIMER-Brayton F. Stadler, of Steuben Road, passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon March 23, 2002 with his loving wife at his side. Born in Herkimer to the late Frank B. and Ida Barney Stadler he was a lifelong Herkimer resident. A graduate of Herkimer High School, "class of 1929" he was active in dramatics, chorus and was head song and cheerleader. He was a US Army veteran serving during World War II both on this continent and the Philippine Islands. Mr. Stadler attained the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged in 1945. On June 19, 1964 he was united in marriage to Lena Mallozzi in the First United Methodist Church Herkimer. The Reverend Fred Cotnam officiated. In 1930 he went to work for the Municipal Corporation in Herkimer and in 1945 became Senior Clerk of the Municipal Commission. In 1959 when the Commission was sold to the Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation he became Operations Clerk "B". He retired in 1972 after forty-three years of service to the company. A member of the First United Church Herkimer since 1928 his church activities included being a member of the Tower Boys Class where he served as treasurer and played basketball, he sang in the church choir for forty three years, he served as usher, was church Treasurer for eight years, he served on the Board of Trustees for ten years, on the Finance Committee for ten years, was church Historian and editor of the 1973 Souvenir Journal. He was a charter member of the church's Boy Scout Troop # 2, from 1920 to 1955 he served as Scoutmaster, District Commissioner, was on the regional Staff of the 1937 National Jamboree in Washington, DC and for eighteen years was a camper and on the Staff of Camp Russell, White Lake, NY. He had directed and participated in County Courts of Honor as well as conducting training courses, field days, training hikes, Thanksgiving rallies, Central District rallies, Oriskany Pilgrimages, Sir William Johnson Bicentennial Celebration, aluminum and rubber drives for the war effort. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow and participated in the planning of Camporees both at Camp Russell, Cedar Lake and expositions at the Mohawk Armory. A seventy-three member of Herkimer Lodge # 423 Free and Accepted Masons, He was on its Club Committee and Choral Group and Chairman of Publicity and member of the Research Committee for the 100th anniversary of the lodge. He was also a member of the Herkimer County Historical Society, the National Chapter of AARP, and was a charter member of the Retired Members Club # 310 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers ATF-CIO, American Legion Post #38, Herkimer, the New York State Civil Service Association. He also served on the Town of Herkimer Committee for our Nations Bicentennial. Surviving are his beloved wife of thirty-seven years Lena, a sister-in-law; Jennie Costello of Frankfort, one niece Carol and her husband Timothy Pryor and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters Doris and Dorothy Stadler. Funeral service will be on Tuesday at 11:00 AM in the First United Methodist Church Herkimer with the Reverend William Otis pastor officiating. Interment in the family plot at Oak Hill Cemetery will be private. Mrs. Stadler will be present to receive relatives and friends in Fenner Funeral Home Inc. 115 Court Street Herkimer on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer. Envelopes will be available at funeral home. Members of Herkimer Lodge # 423 F. & A.M. are asked meet at the funeral home on Monday at 6:45 PM for ritualistic services.
