MOHAWK Calvin E. Merrick, age 78 of Walnut Street died on Saturday October 28, 2017 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. He was born on May 31, 1939 in Ilion a son to the late Glenn and Gertrude Weaver Merrick he was lifelong Mohawk resident and graduate of Mohawk High School. Calvin was an inspector at Chicago Pneumatic until he retired in 1995. On June 29, 1992 he married Carol Slaughter in Mohawk she passed away in 1995. Calvin enjoyed everything about cars and going to car shows. He was a member of the a National Rifle Association. Around the neighborhood, Calvin was found helping his neighbors with their lawns and with snow blowing. He was very devoted to his best friend and canine companion Jasper. He was a friend to many a will be truly missed. He is survived by his special friends, Evelyn Sweet, John and Shirley Casadonte and Joe at Backbreak Acres. Besides his wife and parents he was preceded in death his brother Glenn. Funeral service for Mr. Merrick will take place on Friday at 5:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc. 115 Court Street, Herkimer with the Reverend Brian Engle to officiate. There will one hour of visiting prior to the service at 4:00 pm.
