PORTAGE, Mich. - Carl Haas Brown, 95, formerly of East Herkimer and beloved husband of Jennie Quackenbush Brown, passed away Thursday morning, March 17, 2005, at the home of his daughter in Portage. He was born on September 17, 1909 in Little Falls, son of the late Clarence and Lena Haas Brown. A lifelong area resident he was raised and educated in Oppenheim. On June 28, 1929, he was united in marriage with Jennie Amanda Quackenbush in Dolgeville. They had resided in East Herkimer since 1944 coming from Little Falls. For twenty-five years Mr. Brown worked for the Remington Arms Company, retiring in 1962. Carl will always be remembered as being honest and forthright, a man who liked people. He always took the time to stop and talk with people he knew because he genuinely cared about them. He will be greatly missed. Surviving him are his loving wife of seventy-five years, Jennie; one daughter, with whom he resided, Betty Jane Adamko of Portage; a son, Robert Carl and his wife, Joanne Brown of Winthrop, ME; one brother, Stanley Brown of Orlando, FL; two sisters, Evelyn Hoyt of Clinton, Madge Greene of Dolgeville; a sister-in-law, Mary Brown of Clarks Mills; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, May 3rd at 2:00 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Folts Homes.
