HERKIMER-Carl Douglas Case Sr. age 72, of 105 Protection Avenue, formerly of Mill Road, Oppenheim passed away on Wednesday evening May 16, 2012 in Saint Elizabeths Medical Center. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.
Carl was born on October 18, 1939, in Fort Plain, son of the late Douglas C. and Ruth Sweet Case. He was raised and educated in Johnstown. In March of 1961, he was united in marriage with the former Jessie A. Watkins in Canaan, CT.
For fifteen years Mr. Case worked for the General Electric Company in Schenectady. In 1985 he went to work for the Feuer Leather Company in Gloversville and Johnstown, retiring in 2000 as supervisor with the company.
In his leisure time he enjoyed woodworking, especially making jewelry boxes. Many people marveled at the jewelry boxes he crafted that looked like a roll top desk. Carl was also an outdoor sportsman and particularly liked to hunt and fish. To all who knew him, his greatest joy was his family and the pride he had for his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. Treasured are the memories that they all have to share. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his devoted wife of fifty years, Jessie, five sons and their wives, Brett and Barbara Thompson of Boise, ID, Carl Jr. and Angela Case of Scotia, Douglas and Elisabeth Case of Dolgeville, Scott and Becky Case of Oppenheim, Steve and Tina Case of St. Johnsville, three daughters, Kim Butler and her husband Gene, Kelly Brown and her husband Maynard all of East Herkimer, Shane Laymon of Little Falls, two brothers Menzo Case and his wife Angie of Gloversville, Elwyn Case and his wife Marie of Hoosick Falls, a sister Mabel French of Lake Havasu, AZ, twenty-five grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Mark Thompson and a brother Orson H. Case.
At Mr. Cases request all services and interment are private and at the convenience of the family.
