Ilion Carl Joseph Sloboda, age 84, of Ilion and formerly of Mohawk and Richfield Springs, passed away after a long battle with cancer on May 1, 2016, with the comfort of his loving family. Born on January 24, 1932, in Newark, NJ and was raised in Rahway, NJ. He served during the Korean War in the US Army. Moving from New Jersey to New York State, he took pleasure of meeting many new friends, while enjoying the recreation of outdoors and the beautiful scenery it had to offer. He lost his beloved wife of 54 years, Martha Finocchio Sloboda in 2007, his mom, dad and brother Frank. Surviving are his four children and their families; daughter Linda Kelly and husband Jim of Wantage, NJ, son Ronald Sloboda and wife Dawn of Northport, FL, son Alan Sloboda of Poland, daughter Pamela Walz of Herkimer, his sister Eleanor Blunt and sister-in-law Anita Finocchio, eight loved grandchildren, Danielle, Nicole, Ashley, Jeffrey, Alex, Marisa, Michael and Kayla along with the pleasure of seeing seven great-grandchildren. A private service will be held in New Jersey at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home Inc., Herkimer.
