RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Carmel J. Pugliese, age 80, of Jackies Road, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, October 1, 2002 in Bassett Healthcare Cooperstown, with the comfort of his family at his side.
He was born on June 23, 1922 in Cooperstown, a son of the late Felice and Mary Ruggerio Pugliese. A lifelong area resident he was educated in Cooperstown. During World War II he proudly served his country with the U.S. Marine Corp. A recipient of the Purple Heart he was wounded at Guada Canal. He was first married to Mary Trusz in Cooperstown. A resident of Richfield Springs since 1963 on June 26, 1965 he married Patricia Ferguson in Cooperstown. For fifteen years he worked as a salesman for Smith Ford. He then worked as a salesman for Harvey Sand and Gravel in Oneonta retiring in 1999. Since his retirement he sold birdhouses and trellises. He was a member of the VFW Hartwick Post 1206, and the American Legion of Hartwick Post 1567.
He had a strong love for the outdoors and nature. He loved to hunt and fish and was a bird dog trainer. He enjoyed working in his garden and had a large collection of tools. His friends will remember his winning smile and humorous sense of humor. A family man he was happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren. Carm will always be remembered as a loving caring and helpful person and will be greatly missed by many especially his loving family.
Surviving are his wife of thirty seven years, Patricia; one son Edward and his wife Rosally Pugliese of Manlius; a daughter Lorie and her husband David Lamb of Richfield Springs; five cherished granddaughters, Lauren and Jenna Pugliese of Manlius, Lindsey, Daeltun, and Charlie Sue all of Richfield Springs; one sister Rose Bridger, two sister-in-laws Paula and Pearl Pugliese all of Cooperstown. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his four brothers, John Leonard, Angelo and Vito Pugliese.
Funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. Military honors will be accorded at Schuyler Lake Cemetery where he will be laid to rest. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
