ILION - Carol (Acker) Miner, age 53, of 100 Main Street, passed away peacefully on Monday June 29, 2009 at the home of her brother Michael and his wife Donna. She had the comfort of her family at her side.
She was born on October 15, 1955, in Herkimer, a daughter of the late Frank and Shirley Lincourt Acker. An area resident she graduated from Mohawk High School in 1974. She worked in the healthcare field as a nurses aide retiring in 1983 do to declining health.
She led a devoted catholic life and was a parishioner of Annunciation Church, Ilion. Carol was a people person if a need arose she was there eager to help. She enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels, Catholic Charities, as well as helping at London Towers. She had volunteered as a telephone coordinator for the Sara Wood Rescue Center and continued her support for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. She was artistic in many ways and had diverse interests, be it singing, cooking, reading, painting or doing puzzles she enjoyed them all. In the past she had sung with local choral groups and was most proud of being a part of the All State Choral Choir. Life was to be enjoyed, it was her enthusiasm and contagious laugh that helped others through many of lifes ups and downs. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving, four brothers, Frank Acker Jr. and his wife Elaine of Herkimer, Raymond Acker and his wife Nancy of Virginia, Michael Acker and his wife Donna of Richfield Springs, Nathan Acker of Ilion and his long time companion Beth, two sisters, Cynthia Moore of Utica, Christine Kennedy and her husband Joseph of Ilion. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Edward, and two sisters, Nancy and Susan.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. Reverend Anthony Barratt, pastor of Annunciation Church, Ilion will officiate. The family will be present in the home to receive relatives and friends from 5:00 7:00 p.m. (two hours prior to the funeral service). Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
